Why the Lowcountry is a Great Place to Have Your Vacation-Staycation

2020 has, by far, been the most unprecedented year in recent history, and it is still in full swing. The good news is that things are starting to open again and, in time, hopefully, things will return to whatever the new normal is. What is also in full swing is summer. And for most families, that means a time to get away, reconnect, and build memories.

Although most businesses are being allowed to reopen, unfortunately, COVID-19 is still not completely behind us. But don’t forgo the vacation or staycation that means so much. The Lowcountry is an excellent place to stay put and rediscover where you live, or to visit, safely, for your summer break.

Paddle Boarding and Kayaking

We have all been cooped up indoors for way too long. The Lowcountry is filled with so many amazing habitats to explore. Why not take the day, hit the open water, and get some exercise. If you are still looking to social distance, kayaking and paddle boarding are a great way to maintain your personal space, while still having the time of your life. Get the whole family “on board” and spend the day seeing all the wonders that the marshes and inlets have to offer!

Azalea Park & Sculpture

If there is one thing that the South does best, it is landscaping. When the azaleas are in full bloom, it is truly something miraculous to see. Take a leisurely stroll, or rent bikes and make your way through the park. Or, pack a picnic lunch and sit the day enjoying the sunshine and sites. The little ones will love getting a glimpse at the turtles, and you can build memories of family together-time without any hustle and bustle. It can be an afternoon of no screen-time and plenty of togetherness time.

Summerville Farmers Market

Still not too keen about shopping in closed spaces? The Summerville Farmers Market is an excellent place to peruse and pick up some of the best local produce around. From landscaping plants to fresh-baked bread, you can find some of the best deals around. If you can’t get away, away, stay in Summerville and see the best that local artists and growers have to offer. It is a great way to spend the day without worrying about keeping your distance.

A Lowcountry Charter

What is more relaxing, yet exhilarating at the same time, than hitting the open ocean for a day of fishing? Charters are available to run again with limited capacity, which means that just you and your family can set a course for a day-trip of fun! Try for the catch of the day or just go along for the Dolphin sighting, there is a little something for everyone. Although space is limited, so reservations are highly recommended.

Escape to the Escape Room

Sometimes the best part about being on vacation or staycation is getting lost in something challenging. Elite Escape Games has reopened and is ready for you to crack the case. Get the whole family involved to work together to get out. It is an excellent way to spend a chunk of the day staying put, while at the same time, getting lost in the sport of it!

Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site

Located along the Ashley River are the remains of Old Church’s bell tower. This historical park is an excellent place to get some fresh air and educate yourself about the history of the South. There are over 325-acres to stroll from end to end; you can make an entire day out of it.

There is no doubt that COVID-19 has changed our world in immeasurable ways. But now that things are starting to return to some semblance of normal, it is time to get back to life, which includes your summer family vacation, staycation. Whether you are looking to visit Summerville or live here, there are a vast number of fun and safe activities to engage in. 2020 hasn’t been so much fun yet, but this summer can be if you spend some time building memories for a lifetime.
