Festivals To Enjoy In Summerville This Spring and Summer

Social Distancing Is Now Just Social Again – Festivals to Enjoy in Summerville This Spring and Summer!

As we head fast into spring, the weather is starting to heat up, and with the pandemic easing, we are all ready to begin socializing again in the great outdoors or otherwise. For two years now, we have all missed the spring and summer festivals that we enjoy so dearly in the Summerville area. But fret no more, they are once again open for business. Whether you live in the area, are ready to take a day trip, or looking to relocate, these are the “must” festivals to engage in this spring, summer, and well into the fall in and around Summerville.

Metro-North Spring Market and Craft Fair

Being held on April 23, 2022, at Metro-North Church is the awesome Metro-North Spring Market and Craft Fair. It is an amazing shopping and craft extravaganza that is also chocked-full of delicious delicacies from the area, a bake sale, and local artisan’s crafts. If you haven’t gotten your Mother’s day gift just yet, this is the place to get it. Unique and custom arts and crafts abound. It starts at 10 am, so bring the entire family for a day of shopping and gathering with the community!

Free Movie Fridays

It might not be a festival, but it is a good time for all. On Fridays, families around the Summerville area enjoy the big screen out on the big green. The movie is open for all ages, with a rated-appropriate movie for all. The featured film begins when the sun sets, but there are plenty of little ones running around and families sprawled out enjoying time together pre-movie. May 13 will be Raya & the Last Dragon, so make it a date, and you’ll see the entire community there.

Bluegrass Brunch

Who doesn’t love Bluegrass? No one! On May 22, from 11:30 – 2:00 pm, the Bluegrass Brunch – Southern Flavor Bluegrass Band will be playing at the Brown Family Park. Admission is free and so are the tunes. It is held in Nexton, and all you have to bring is your own chair and blankets to hang out. There is no outside food or drinks, coolers or tents, and if you bring your furry BFF, please be sure that they are leashed. Food trucks from Wabi & Sabi and the Pita Stroller will be serving food up hot and fresh and Tap Truck Charleston is what is on tap. It is sure to be a good family and young-people fun time!

Fireworks & Freedom Festival

If there was ever a time to celebrate freedom, post-pandemic is it! The Town of Summerville is pleased to hold fireworks this July 4th at Gahagan Park, 515 W. Boundary St. The best part about the fireworks is not just that it is back after a hiatus but also, that it is family-friendly and there is live music, cold drinks, great food, and a kid’s zone that will entertain the little ones until the sun goes down and the lights come out! It is sure to be a spectacle to remember, and don’t forget to come out and support our freedom and our troops!

Sweet Tea Festival

If there is one thing that Summerville is known for, it is sweet tea. The Sweet Tea Festival is right in downtown Summerville, which is the birthplace of the Southern fav. Located at the fair is not just a delicious sip, you can also eat at one of the many food trucks and shop for local artisan crafts. There will also be plenty of tea on tap. It is being held on September 17th at 2:00, and everyone will be so grateful for its return!

As we all try to get back into the swing of socializing instead of social distancing, there are a ton of things going on around Summerville. If you live here or you plan on visiting, make sure to make the best of the time we all missed this spring and summer by coming out to support the community, having fun with friends and neighbors, and enjoying the best of Summerville.
